Sunrise to Sunset in the Roan Highlands, exploring the goldnen grassy balds and sweeping vistas.
A One day Workshop exploring the grassy balds of the Roan Highlands.
This will be a full day starting in the late morning. We will have a leisurely day hike up to Grassy Ridge and halfway back down for an amazing Sunset. Following Sunset, we will hike back to the car and adjourn our trip. This is a perfect way to enjoy learn about Roan Mountain and all of its angles and views. How to pick out spots and plan for a return visit. It is a vast area, and anyone can tell you that it can take years to achieve the level you want up there. Our Sunset location is one of my favorites and a lesser-known spot than the popular Janes Bald. During August, lots of things are going on up at Roan. This is a great time to see gorgeous clouds building and an occasional Thunder boomer in the area. There will also be Blueberries that are ripe by the thousands. I should probably mention my favorite part, though, and that’s the golden grass that is interwoven around the beautiful rock up there.
This is a special time of the year up there, and you won’t see the crazy traffic that you see during Spring. Sssssh, we’ll just keep this our little secret.
Join me for this amazing adventure up at 6000’ for an experience that you will never forget!!
Overview:
We will plan to head over to Roan Mountain in the am for a nice short hike and Surise shoot. We will plan to shoot through Golden Hour and will stay until we are hungry. I have a nice meal planned at a restaurant that is a local favorite, where we will do a nice brunch and then return to the Mountain. We will be hiking on and around the Appalachian trail all day long and will see some of my personal favorite locations before we trek on up the Mountain to Grassy Ridge where we will spend the afternoon exploring around the golden grass and last wildflowers of the year up there. On our return trip, we will make a stop at my favorite location for Sunset. I actually have a few so we will pick the best one on the way back… they are all so tempting. Once we have bagged a fantastic Sunset, we will work our way back to the car and head on back to Boone, where we will take a break followed by a nice relaxing meal at another local favorite. This is a perfect end to the day trip because we will have plenty of casual time to talk about what we found and share some pictures.
This is great day on Roan and this time of year can have lots of surprises on the weather so get ready for fun filled day on the AT discovering the Roan Mountain grassy balds.
