Join me for an unforgettable Oregon Coast photography workshop where we’ll explore one of the most rugged and photogenic coastlines in the world. Over five full days, we’ll travel down Oregon’s magnificent shoreline, capturing sea stacks, tidal reflections, crashing waves, rugged cliffs, and golden light that make this coast so iconic. Stops will include Cape Perpetua, Coos Bay, Bandon Beach, and other hidden gems along the way. Every location offers unique opportunities to master composition, experiment with light, and create dramatic coastal images.

We’ll dive into creative techniques for long exposures using Neutral Density filters, learning how to capture the swirl of water around towering sea stacks and rocky arches. These natural lead lines bring depth, flow, and emotion into your images. You’ll also practice compositional framing, visual flow, and the element of time—all essential skills for creating powerful landscape photography. Along the way, we’ll slow down to enjoy beaches, tide pools, and reflections, where starfish, anemones, and colorful marine life add intimate details to our photographic story.

From there, we’ll travel south to experience the awe-inspiring Redwoods, spending a day and a half photographing these giants in morning fog as light rays cut through the dense forest. It’s like stepping into a fairy tale—an atmosphere every photographer dreams of capturing.

What You’ll Learn

This workshop is about much more than visiting beautiful places. I’ll guide you through:

  • Grand landscape compositions as well as mid-range and intimate scenes.

  • How to “see” and simplify chaotic coastal and forest scenes into balanced, compelling images.

  • Using water movement and light to create depth, purpose, and storytelling.

  • Techniques for astrophotography on the coast, with the Milky Way visible early in the evening—perfect for capturing starry skies without staying out all night.

  • Practical tips for handling changing weather, tides, and light on the Oregon Coast.

This is the perfect opportunity for both aspiring and advanced photographers to push their creativity, refine their vision, and learn how to create images with impact. Imagine yourself standing on a pebble-strewn beach with Haystack Rock rising in the distance, waves crashing around sea stacks at Bandon, fog weaving through the cliffs of Cape Perpetua, and beams of light filtering through the Redwoods. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.

Let me share my vision of the Oregon Coast and Redwoods with you, and together we’ll create images that bring out the magic of this epic landscape.
