February 9 - 11, 2025
2 nights exploring the night sky on the North Carolina & Tennessee Blue Ridge.
Come explore the best of North Carolina’s frozen High Country!
It may not be snowing, but you can be assured of one thing… It will be cold. And where’s there cold, there’s Rime Ice and lots of frozen goodies for the person that knows where to look. This will be a more intimate look into the Winter gems of the Southern Appalachians. This trip will be based on the weather conditions and we will be hitting anything from the Roan Highlands at 6200’ to the incredible mountain streams and lakes of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Wilderness areas.
Areas that we may visit include the Blue Ridge Parkway, Roan Mountain, Mt. Rogers, Linville Gorge, and Grandfather Mountain.
Overview
This workshop will explore the wintry world of golden sunrises, icy reflections, and frozen waterfalls. Rime ice is one of our favorites and we’ll spend the better part of a day near 6200 feet where rime ice thrives and turns a normal world into an icy winter wonderland. We’ll also dive into the frozen forest where golden rays spill through the forest long after sunrise. Afterwards, we’ll have a hearty breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants atop a mountainside. Following, we’ll likely dive deeper into the forest floor and look for frozen creeks and waterfalls.
I am topping the enrollment at 4 this day so that I can spend time with each of you individually. Part of my goal is to understand where you are with your photography and where you would like to be. There is always something useful I can share to elevate your Workflow. If you’re just starting out in photography no problem. As with anything, a good solid foundation is a great place to start and I can certainly get you started there.
A 4WD vehicle is recommended for this Workshop. The roads are typically in good shape, but if it is snowing the secondary roads can be snow covered.
